Every holidays Greentree Acting School runs a Kids School Holiday Program in Footscray, Melbourne! We are so delighted to have seen another successful program these April school holidays. Thank you to the wonderful students who participated in all of the fun.
About the Kids School Holiday Program!
The program runs 3 days a week over the school holidays. It is taught by the fabulous Brenna Dixon who ia a graduate of the Bachelor of Performing Arts at Monash University. Brenna is a teacher and ensemble member of Victoria’s longest-running improvisational theatre company, Impro Melbourne. She is also the Artistic Director of Soothplayers, an improvisational theatre company inspired by the themes and language of William Shakespeare. Lastly, she has also toured regionally teaching storytelling and improvisation workshops for primary and secondary school students.
All levels of experience are welcome in the program, with most children never doing a drama class before! Brenna creates a safe environment where the students welcome one another, make new friends, and become an ensemble of young performers.
What do they do?
This term, the students worked with Brenna to develop their confidence, nurture their inner performer, and discover the craft of acting. Throughout the three days with us the students learn how to bring a character to life, how to work with a script, and how to create stories. We are also so lucky to have equipment like a green screen, camera, microphones, and costumes for the students to use as well. This allows them to learn about more than just drama, but also what it’s like to make a film. These learnings then assist them to put together their very own short film at the end of the three days.
The short film includes every student as they perform in front of the camera. The story is completely devised by the students and shot by Brenna. She also also edits the film and sends it out to the parents! We love picturing the families getting together watching the film and having many, many laughs!
